Tri-State Areas Under Snow Emergencies Due to Winter Weather

CINCINNATI – Winter weather has prompted authorities in certain areas of the Tri-State to declare snow emergencies, affecting travel and safety conditions for residents. Currently, Ohio is not reporting any snow emergencies, while Kentucky and Indiana have issued various advisories.

In Kentucky, Boone County, Campbell County, and Kenton County are all under a Level 1 snow emergency, which was put into effect at 10 p.m. on Thursday. This designation indicates that roadways are hazardous due to blowing and drifting snow, and icy conditions may also be present. Residents are advised to exercise caution if they must travel.

Taylor Mill has also declared a snow emergency, aligning with the Level 1 status already established in other counties.

Meanwhile, Indiana has issued a yellow travel advisory for Dearborn County, signaling that while travel is not restricted, residents should remain cautious due to possible hazardous conditions.

Snow Emergency Levels Explained

The snow emergency classification helps inform residents about the severity of roadway conditions and necessary precautions:

  • Level 1: Conditions are hazardous with potential blowing or drifting snow. Cautious driving is recommended.

  • Level 2: Roadways become increasingly dangerous, and only those with essential travel needs are advised to venture out. It’s recommended that residents consult their employers regarding work schedules.

  • Level 3: This level restricts all roadways to emergency personnel and essential travel only. Non-compliance can lead to legal repercussions, with residents urged to stay in contact with employers about work.

Travel Advisory Levels

Travel advisories are also being issued to provide residents with a clearer understanding of current travel safety levels:

  • Yellow: This is the lowest advisory level, where travel may be hindered due to hazardous conditions. Caution is advised when traveling.

  • Orange: Travel is considered threatening to public safety. Essential trips to and from work are recommended.

  • Red: The highest level of advisory in which travel may be officially restricted. Residents are instructed to refrain from traveling except for emergencies and to comply with public safety directives.

Community members are encouraged to stay informed about weather developments and to prioritize safety during this winter weather event.
