U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about the ongoing conflict with Iran, suggesting that the war is “very close to over.” In a recent interview with Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo, Trump claimed that the U.S. has achieved military dominance over Iran, asserting, “We’ve beaten them militarily, totally.” He indicated that Tehran is eager to reach a peace agreement, stating, “I think they want to make a deal very badly.”
Despite a setback in peace negotiations last weekend, Trump emphasized the potential for a resolution, stating that if U.S. forces were to withdraw immediately, it would take Iran decades to rebuild. “We’re not finished,” he added, reassuring that the U.S. intends to maintain pressure on Tehran until a deal is secured.
These comments come during a period of growing market optimism regarding a diplomatic resolution to the U.S.-Iran war, which has caused significant fluctuations in global markets due to heightened tensions and supply disruptions leading to soaring oil prices. However, Trump remained confident that oil prices would decrease soon and defended U.S. military operations aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He forecasted a booming stock market following the conclusion of the conflict.
On the diplomatic front, a White House official revealed that a second round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran is under consideration, although no official scheduling has been confirmed yet. Trump later indicated that talks might take place in Islamabad and indicated a potential acceleration of these discussions, noting that negotiations might unfold over the next few days.
Amidst these diplomatic efforts, the U.S. has continued its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, vital for international shipping and predominantly under Iranian control. The U.S. Central Command announced the full implementation of the blockade, effectively stifling Tehran’s international sea trade.
As the situation develops, all eyes remain on potential talks, especially with a fragile two-week ceasefire approaching its expiration.
