A United Airlines flight, using a Boeing 737 MAX 8, declared an airborne emergency shortly after taking off from Chicago O’Hare International Airport today, prompting a swift diversion. The flight, designated UA2092, was en route to New York’s LaGuardia Airport and took off nearly two hours behind schedule at 9:54 AM, following an initial departure time of 8:00 AM.
Initial flight tracking data indicated that the aircraft, registered as N37325, had a normal ascent as it reached its cruising altitude of 37,000 feet. However, as it was flying eastward, the crew executed a sudden right turn and activated their transponder to Squawk 7700, indicating a general emergency.
While the precise details of the emergency remain unconfirmed by United Airlines or the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), it was later reported that the flight was diverted to Pittsburgh International Airport due to a bomb threat detected onboard shortly after liftoff.
On approach to runway 28C, the aircraft touched down at 12:04 PM local time, where it was met by emergency vehicles. Passengers began evacuating the aircraft via emergency slides immediately upon landing.
In response to the incident, United Airlines is making arrangements for a new departure for affected passengers scheduled at 3:00 PM. The situation continues to develop, and further details are anticipated as authorities investigate the threat.
