PHILADELPHIA — The United States Mint has officially begun circulating a series of new coins to mark the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States. The first of these coins, the Mayflower Compact Quarter, was released on Monday and features a poignant design showcasing two pilgrims alongside the motto “E Pluribus Unum,” which translates to “Out of many, one.”
This quarter is just the beginning, as four additional quarters will soon follow, each highlighting significant moments in American history. The forthcoming designs will pay tribute to key events such as the Revolutionary War, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the crafting of the Constitution, and the impactful Gettysburg Address. These coins are being minted in Philadelphia and are anticipated to resonate deeply as the nation prepares for its Semiquincentennial celebrations.
In addition to the quarters, a nickel featuring Thomas Jefferson will also be entering circulation. Coin enthusiasts can look forward to a collectible Liberty half dollar and a dated penny accompanying these new releases.
All of these coins are set to be available before the grand national celebration on July 4, allowing citizens and collectors alike to commemorate this historic milestone. For further details regarding the Semiquincentennial coins and their availability, individuals are encouraged to visit the United States Mint’s official website at USMint.gov.
