The East Wing of the White House was completely demolished on Thursday as construction ramps up for the new ballroom championed by President Donald Trump. This major undertaking marks the most significant alteration to the White House’s exterior since President Franklin D. Roosevelt expanded the East Wing in 1942 when it became the official office of the first lady.

In remarks made on July 31, Trump emphasized that the new ballroom will “not interfere with the current building,” assuring its proximity without direct contact. He expressed a strong admiration for the existing structure, highlighting his commitment to maintaining its integrity throughout the construction.

The substantial project is set to cost approximately $300 million, funded by various donors, including Trump himself. Designed to accommodate up to 999 guests, the ballroom aims to enhance the White House’s event hosting capabilities.

On Wednesday evening, Trump held a dinner in the East Room as a gesture of appreciation for the corporations and individuals who have pledged financial support for the initiative. Notable among the contributors is Comcast Corp., the parent entity of NBCUniversal, which has participated in the fundraising efforts.

The roster of donors is notable for its diversity, showcasing contributions from a wide range of industries. Some key donors include major corporations such as Amazon, Apple, and Google, alongside entities like Lockheed Martin and Microsoft. Individuals and foundations participating in the funding include the Adelson Family Foundation, the Laura & Isaac Perlmutter Foundation, and several prominent figures from various sectors.

While the detailed contributions from each donor have not been disclosed, the extensive list represents a significant coalition of support behind Trump’s vision for the new ballroom, reflecting a blend of corporate and individual philanthropic efforts aimed at enhancing the White House’s functionality and grandeur.
