Winter Weather Advisory Issued as Two Clipper Systems Bring Snow to Tri-State Area

CINCINNATI – The first of two clipper systems is making its presence felt in the Tri-State area, moving in overnight and potentially bringing up to 6 inches of snow over the weekend. From Friday through Sunday morning are designated FOX19 NOW First Alert Weather Days, with roads currently wet and light snow falling primarily in the early hours of the day. Drivers are advised to remain cautious for slick spots on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads.

A notable incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when a three-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 75 at Ezzard Charles Drive led to a temporary shutdown that lasted about an hour. The roadway briefly reopened before being closed again for tow truck operations.

A Winter Weather Advisory is currently in effect for much of southwestern Ohio and southeastern Indiana until 10 a.m. Friday, while many northern Kentucky counties are under a Winter Storm Warning until the same time. The FOX19 NOW Weather Team reports that snow will continue throughout Friday morning, impacting the morning commute, with heavier snowfall expected in Northern Kentucky compared to the northern Cincinnati suburbs.

Temperatures are forecasted to plummet into the 20s in the morning before a slight rebound to around 36 degrees in the afternoon. Snowfall is expected to taper off later in the day; however, colder air will be ushered into the region, dropping nighttime lows into the teens by Saturday morning. Untreated roads are likely to remain icy by daybreak.

Looking ahead to Saturday and Sunday, the next weather system is predicted to arrive late Saturday morning and extend into early Sunday morning, with an additional accumulation of 3 to 5 inches of snow anticipated. This snow will particularly affect areas different from Friday’s snowfall, with the northern counties likely experiencing the most significant accumulation. Road conditions are expected to deteriorate throughout Saturday afternoon and evening, disrupting travel and early weekend plans.

The forecast indicates steady snowfall on Saturday, tapering off before sunrise on Sunday. Following this, temperatures are expected to plummet into the single digits with wind chills dipping below zero by daybreak. Despite the cold, Sunday is projected to be mostly sunny, although fans attending the Bengals game and tailgating activities will need to dress warmly.

As the week progresses, the Tri-State area is likely to experience colder-than-normal temperatures. Monday morning may see lows around 1 degree, while daytime highs are expected to only reach the low 20s under mostly sunny skies. Tuesday will bring another frigid start with low temperatures in the teens, but a slight rebound is anticipated in the afternoon, allowing temperatures to rise above freezing for the first time in several days. By Wednesday, temperatures could climb to the low-to-mid-40s with a chance of rain, continuing into Thursday when highs might reach the low 50s, though rain is still forecasted.
