Syracuse Basketball Faces Hofstra in JMA Wireless Dome Showdown

The Syracuse basketball team faces off against Hofstra Pride this Saturday at 4 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome. The game will be broadcast live on the ACC Network. Fans can stay updated with in-game statistics and analysis, and a postgame show hosted by Brent Axe will be available on platforms such as Apple, Spotify, Google, and Stitcher.

As the matchup unfolds, Syracuse started strong, with a score of 17-14 against Hofstra with just over 11 minutes remaining in the first half. JJ Starling has been the standout player early in the game, scoring 12 of the Orange’s first 15 points. His offensive efforts included two 3-pointers and an impressive drive to the basket using a well-timed pump fake. Starling also executed a high floater off the glass after working off a ball screen, showcasing his scoring prowess.

Despite Syracuse’s efforts, rebounding challenges continue to plague the team. Hofstra capitalized on this weakness, securing three offensive rebounds before the first media timeout and converting those opportunities into five crucial points. Notably, Preston Edmead knocked down a 3-pointer following an offensive rebound and was effective in creating space for another shot. Sophomore Cruz Davis has also made his presence felt, scoring effectively in the paint.

As the game progresses, it should be noted that Syracuse is returning to the court just two days after a narrow 71-63 victory over Saint Joseph’s. The win was hard-fought with several key players not at 100% and without sophomore forward Donnie Freeman, who has missed five consecutive games due to an undisclosed injury. Freeman’s absence is felt particularly in defensive rebounding, as his interior game sets him apart from other players on the roster.

In his place, Sadiq White has stepped up occasionally, demonstrating an ability to hit outside shots while remaining tenacious in the paint, although his performance was below par during the last game against the Hawks. Hofstra, entering the Dome with a solid reputation for guard play, features junior Cruz Davis and freshman Preston Edmead, both of whom are critical to their offensive strategy. Davis, in particular, has been on fire, averaging over 20 points per game and maintaining a consistent scoring streak.

Overall, Syracuse needs to improve its guard play, especially addressing issues at the free-throw line and ball security. With players like Georgia Tech transfer Naithan George and freshman Kiyan Anthony needing to step up, the Orange looks to capitalize on their strengths as they battle the Pride. Fans are encouraged to refresh the game page for continuous updates as the action unfolds.
