Anthropic has unveiled a new experimental product called Claude Design, aimed at assisting individuals lacking design expertise, such as founders and product managers, in bringing their ideas to life visually. The announcement was made on Friday, detailing how the product allows users to generate various visual formats, including prototypes, slides, and one-pagers, simply by providing descriptive prompts.

With Claude Design, users start by articulating their vision to the AI, which then generates an initial design. After the first draft, users can make adjustments through direct edits or additional requests. For example, a user could instruct Claude to “prototype a serene mobile meditation app” and specify stylistic elements like calming typography and nature-inspired colors. Users can further refine the prototype by modifying colors, font sizes, or adding features such as a dark mode toggle.

While some may view Claude Design as a competitor to established design platforms like Canva—especially given Canva’s recent upgrades to its AI features—Anthropic clarifies that Claude Design is intended to complement such tools rather than compete with them. The product is designed for those who are not familiar with traditional design software yet need to translate ideas into visual formats swiftly.

Teams can seamlessly export their creations as PDFs, URLs, or PPTX files and can even transfer them to Canva for further editing and collaboration. Moreover, Claude Design incorporates a team’s specific design system into each project, ensuring consistency with the company’s overall visual branding. This adaptive capability allows it to read and apply elements from a company’s existing codebase and design files. Additionally, teams can manage multiple design systems within the application.

Powered by Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Design is currently available in research preview exclusively for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. This launch underscores Anthropic’s strategic focus on the enterprise and prosumer markets as competition around AI-powered workplace tools heats up. Earlier this year, the company introduced Claude Cowork, an assistant tailored for complex tasks, followed by the release of agentic plug-ins meant to automate specialized functions across various departments.

The announcement of Claude Design arrives amid reports indicating that venture capitalists have been eyeing the startup for a preemptive funding round, potentially valuing the company at around $800 billion—competitive with industry leader OpenAI. Despite this interest, sources indicate that Anthropic is currently not pursuing these funding offers.
