Kaiser Permanente and Renown Health have announced a strategic partnership aimed at improving access to healthcare in northern Nevada. This joint venture, set to commence in 2026, will see both nonprofit organizations collaborating to operate a health plan and outpatient care delivery system, promising to elevate the standard of care for residents in the region.

Kaiser Permanente’s CEO, Greg A. Adams, expressed enthusiasm for this new endeavor, highlighting the organization’s mission to provide affordable, high-quality healthcare to as many people as possible. He noted that community demand has driven the expansion into Nevada, allowing the healthcare provider to enhance coverage options for both individuals and employers in the area.

Brian Erling, CEO of Renown Health, echoed Adams’ sentiments, stating that the partnership with Kaiser Permanente will allow for a significant expansion in the availability of high-quality insurance coverage. He emphasized the collaboration’s potential to maintain local care while harnessing the resources and expertise of a nationally recognized partner. “Together, we are committed to improving health outcomes and expanding care options for all Nevadans,” said Erling.

The economic landscape in Nevada, particularly in Reno—a rapidly growing metropolitan area—presents a rich opportunity for this partnership. Under the agreement, pending regulatory approval, Kaiser Permanente will launch health plan coverage to employers and residents, beginning with the next open enrollment period in 2026. This move aims to fulfill local consumer demands for accessible healthcare services.

The collaboration will integrate Renown Health’s Hometown Health, its insurance arm, with Kaiser Permanente’s established value-based care model. Kaiser Permanente plans to open new multispecialty ambulatory health locations in central and northern Reno, where patients will benefit from a range of services including diagnostic, pharmacy, and ancillary care alongside standard medical services.

Renown Health, a leading health system in the region since 1988, has been pivotal in establishing a comprehensive healthcare network encompassing various medical facilities and services. The organization is committed to remaining an independent nonprofit while continuing to accept all current health insurance plans.

Through the joint venture, Kaiser Permanente will take a majority stake in Hometown Health, with no immediate changes expected to existing plans or networks. The partnership is anticipated to undergo regulatory review before finalizing in early 2026, laying the groundwork for a promising new chapter in healthcare in northern Nevada.
