Google has officially rolled out its latest AI model, Gemini 3, as part of its ongoing efforts to stay competitive with rival OpenAI. In a blog post, CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized the model’s capabilities, describing it as “built to grasp depth and nuance.” He highlighted its potential applications, such as transforming handwritten recipes in various languages into a shareable family cookbook and creating personalized training programs by analyzing users’ pickleball matches.
Gemini 3 is now integrated into both the Gemini app and Google’s search products, as well as developer-focused platforms including AI Studio and AI Vertex. The Gemini app boasts an impressive 650 million monthly users, while Google AI Overviews has reached a substantial 2 billion monthly users.
This announcement follows a series of developments within Google’s AI landscape, including the recent release of Gemini 2.5 and the decision to make their chatbot accessible free of charge to all users. Google’s AI executives, Demis Hassabis and Koray Kavukcuoglu, mentioned in a separate blog that Gemini 3 Pro aims to provide “genuine insight” instead of “cliche and flattery,” subtly addressing criticisms aimed at other AI models like ChatGPT for being overly complimentary.
The launch of Gemini 3 comes shortly after OpenAI introduced its Atlas web browser in October, which integrates the company’s chatbot into everyday internet usage, thereby posing a direct challenge to Google. OpenAI also released its most advanced version of ChatGPT, known as GPT-5, in August, coinciding with the announcement that the company had surpassed 700 million weekly users.
