Harvard Business School has made a significant announcement, naming Brad Garlinghouse, the CEO of Ripple, as the 2026 Business Leader of the Year. This prestigious recognition elevates Garlinghouse, a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency industry, into the global spotlight, highlighting a decade of unwavering commitment amidst an ever-evolving landscape characterized by skepticism and transformative growth.

The award was presented during a high-profile event organized by the Harvard Business School Association of Northern California, which attracted over 250 influential investors, founders, and executives. Among the notable attendees was Chris Larsen, Garlinghouse’s longtime partner at Ripple, serving as a poignant reminder of their collaborative journey through periods of innovation and regulatory hurdles.

Since his appointment as CEO in 2016, Garlinghouse has pursued a clear goal: to revolutionize cross-border payments. Central to this mission is the concept of the “Internet of Value,” which envisions a system where money is transferred as quickly and effortlessly as information. Under Garlinghouse’s leadership, Ripple has evolved into a comprehensive global payments network spanning numerous countries, offering a more efficient, cost-effective, and transparent alternative to legacy financial systems that have long struggled with delays and excessive fees.

In addition to building a robust infrastructure, Garlinghouse has emerged as a vital voice in the debate surrounding cryptocurrency regulation. Recently, he underscored the growing support for the CLARITY Act, urging lawmakers to capitalize on what he described as a “wide open” regulatory window for the blockchain industry. As Ripple continues to enhance its ecosystem, the demand for XRP has seen an uptick, with exciting new integrations, including wrapped XRP on the Solana network.

Garlinghouse recently celebrated 11 years with Ripple, emphasizing his steadfast dedication to the company’s vision. In an industry often driven by fleeting trends and changing leadership, his consistent presence has become a hallmark of his reign.

For Harvard Business School, the recognition of Garlinghouse extends beyond merely financial success; it celebrates leaders adept at navigating disruption while actively influencing their sectors. By honoring Garlinghouse, the institution is also signaling a broader acceptance of blockchain and digital assets as integral components of the financial industry’s evolution.

As the cryptocurrency landscape continues to mature and integrate with traditional financial systems, Garlinghouse’s award further solidifies his role among the executives shaping this important transition.
