La experiencia de El Turco no será determinante en la final del Apertura 2025 según Ricardo La Volpe

In an insightful analysis of the upcoming final between Toluca and Tigres in the Apertura 2025, Ricardo La Volpe shares his expert opinion on the coaching dynamics at play. He emphasizes that the extensive experience of Antonio “El Turco” Mohamed should not overshadow the tactical nuances that Guido Pizarro brings to the pitch as a relatively new head coach.

La Volpe remarks on the caliber of both coaches, highlighting their successful playing careers alongside formidable coaching philosophies. He notes that while Mohamed boasts an impressive 22 years of experience, Pizarro’s one year should not be underestimated, especially given their shared backgrounds as players who have benefited from exceptional mentors throughout their careers.

“The two have profiles and football philosophies that may seem similar given their playing styles,” La Volpe explains. Pizarro’s experience as an offensive midfielder in Argentina’s national team and his triumphs with Tigres, combined with his time spent abroad, equip him with the knowledge to effectively lead his team on this crucial stage.

The strategic battle will hinge not only on their respective experiences but also on how each coach adapts to the evolving circumstances of the match. La Volpe recalls how both teams showcased their tactical prowess during the first leg of the final, where Mohamed adjusted his game plan, switching between a five-man defense and a more aggressive four-man system.

La Volpe further analyzes the match conditions, suggesting that Toluca could have an edge due to their home advantage at Estadio Nemesio Diez. He believes the intense support from the local fans can significantly boost the players’ motivation. However, the absence of Alexis Vega, a vital player for Toluca known for his partnership with Paulinho, has posed a challenge for the team, potentially affecting their offensive strategy.

Looking ahead to the second leg, La Volpe predicts that Toluca will adopt a four-man defensive line, while Tigres is likely to position Ángel Correa more centrally as a striker, a move aimed at maximizing offensive pressure.

In conclusion, La Volpe anticipates a tactical battle that extends beyond just experience. He expects both teams to demonstrate a commitment to controlling the game through possession, aiming for a victory that reflects their disciplined approaches rather than leaving it to chance or set pieces. As the final approaches, the anticipation builds for a clash rich in strategy and dynamic football.
