As of Saturday morning, Northern Light Health and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield remain without a contract, with a deadline that initially set for November 1 approaching. Despite the lack of a finalized agreement, both parties indicate that negotiations are still in progress.
R. Guy Hudson, president and CEO of Northern Light Health, reassured patients who hold Anthem insurance that they will continue to receive care from Northern Light Health without any disruption during this negotiation period. “They will not be treated as out of network,” Hudson stated emphatically. He emphasized the organization’s commitment to maintaining patient health and care, advocating for a contract that ensures the necessary services are protected.
The previous agreement between the two entities was initially scheduled to end on September 30. If a new contract is not reached, approximately 30,000 residents of Maine who utilize Anthem health plans would find themselves out of network for services rendered by Northern Light physicians and non-hospital care.
Patients concerned about continuity of care or their insurance coverage were encouraged to refer to Anthem’s website or contact Anthem directly using the phone number on the reverse side of their member ID cards. On the other hand, individuals with inquiries about appointments or billing were directed to visit Northern Light’s website or to call their dedicated community information line at 1-888-616-0039.
The ongoing negotiations continue to be a focal point for both organizations, as they work to reach an agreement that serves their patients effectively.
