Robby Hoffman is set to captivate audiences with her new special, Wake Up, premiering on Netflix on December 14. This highly anticipated performance, directed by comedian John Mulaney, captures Hoffman’s unique comedic style and personality, described by The New York Times as a “modern lesbian Andrew ‘Dice’ Clay.” Audiences can expect her “bulldozing stand-up” to deliver sharp wit reminiscent of Larry David.
The special was filmed on October 21 at The Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever in Los Angeles, adding to the vibrant backdrop of Hoffman’s engaging performance, which kicks off with her making a stylish entrance in a sleek Porsche.
Hoffman, with her recognizable slicked-back bun and wire-rimmed glasses, has gained widespread acclaim for her role in HBO Max’s popular series Hacks, where she was a standout in its fourth season. Her work in the series garnered her an Emmy nomination for outstanding guest in a comedy series in 2025. Additionally, she starred alongside Michelle Williams in the limited FX series Dying for Sex and claimed a Daytime Emmy in 2019 for her writing contributions to PBS’s children’s series Odd Squad. Critics have also touted her podcast, Too Far, as “an addictive listen.”
Beyond her current accolades, Hoffman is expected to reprise her role as Randi, the office manager for talent agents Jimmy LuSaque Jr. (played by Paul W. Downs) and Kayla Schaeffer (played by Megan Stalter) in the upcoming fifth season of Hacks, which is presently in production.
A trailblazer in the comedy world, the queer ex-Hasidic comedian is also in the process of developing her own series, Unentitled, at HBO, where she will serve as writer, executive producer, and star. Furthermore, she is set to take on a prominent role in an upcoming HBO series featuring Steve Carell, expanding her influence in television.
Hoffman’s diverse body of work includes writing contributions for The Chris Gethard Show on TruTV, Workin’ Moms on Netflix, and the Baroness von Sketch Show on IFC, demonstrating her versatility and talent within the entertainment industry. As she prepares for her Netflix debut, audiences eagerly anticipate the fresh perspectives and comedic brilliance she will undoubtedly deliver.
