A recent alert from crypto wallet provider Tangem highlights the rising issue of fraud and security threats within the cryptocurrency community. In a statement released via social media, Tangem warned users to be cautious of fake initial coin offerings (ICOs) and reiterated that the company does not engage in airdrops or possess any tokens.

Tangem emphasized the importance of vigilance, indicating that the company will never initiate contact with users to request personal information, passwords, or payments. The warning specifically stated that all genuine communication from Tangem will only originate from their official email domain. Additionally, the notice specified that the company will not make contact via telephone or messaging applications.

Users are advised to be on high alert for any unexpected messages, links, or calls that claim to be from Tangem, as these could potentially be attempts by scammers to harvest personal information. Tangem encourages users to verify any suspicious information through official channels.

This fraud alert comes at a time when similar warnings are being echoed by other players in the crypto industry. Major cryptocurrency exchange Binance recently issued its own advisory urging users to remain cautious of phishing attacks. Binance detailed common red flags to look out for, such as unusual URLs, unsolicited requests for personal information, or messages that create a sense of urgency.

Phishing scams typically involve malicious emails that trick users into clicking on harmful links or downloading attachments, potentially compromising their devices or leading them to fraudulent websites designed to capture sensitive data.

Both Tangem and Binance are stressing the need for heightened awareness among users, urging them to employ basic safety practices, such as hovering over links to verify URLs without clicking, and to be mindful of any messages that contain spelling or grammatical errors. As the cryptocurrency landscape continues to evolve, the threat of scams remains a significant concern, underscoring the need for vigilance within the community.
