The football season kicked off with a rocky start, as analysts reported a disappointing record of 5-11 against the spread and on totals in the opening week. After taking a break from making predictions last week, the feeling is that the upcoming matchups could trend similarly poorly.

The matchups feature a mix of powerhouse programs and underdogs, laying the groundwork for a highly anticipated weekend of college football. Lines are provided by FanDuel, with times listed in Central.

At 11:00 AM, Wisconsin faces off against Alabama on ABC. Despite Alabama’s commanding victory over ULM last week, skepticism remains regarding their overall prowess. Conversely, Wisconsin’s struggle against MTSU raises concerns about their readiness. Analysts suggest a safe bet on Alabama to win by more than three touchdowns. The picks for this game are Alabama -20.5 and Over 46.5.

An intriguing face-off unfolds as Oklahoma visits Temple at the same time on ESPN2. With a notable spread, analysts advocate for Temple as a solid underdog, suggesting a critical win in the tight matchup. The picks here are Temple +21.5 and Over 51.5.

South Alabama will take on Auburn in the 11:45 AM slot on the SEC Network. Auburn’s prior win against Baylor gives them slight momentum, but their performance against weaker teams raises eyebrows. Analysts fear a potential upset in what could be a sleepy game, advising a pick on South Alabama with the spread of +24.5 and Under 55.5.

By 2:30 PM, Georgia squares off against Tennessee in a pivotal SEC clash on ABC. While Georgia remains a steadfast competitor, the analysts express discomfort with their predictions, opting tentatively for Tennessee +4.5 and Under 49.5.

Missouri will host Southwestern Louisiana at 3:00 PM on SEC Network+, drawing comparison to past strong seasons but highlighting the current team’s struggles. Analysts see Missouri winning by a sizable margin, with picks of Missouri -27.5 and Over 47.5.

UTEP’s surprising win against UT-Martin puts them on the radar as they head to Texas at 3:15 PM. While Texas is expected to dominate, uncertainties about quarterback Arch Manning lead to a cautious bet on UTEP +41.5 and Under 51.5.

The matchup between Alcorn State and Mississippi State at 5:00 PM currently lacks a betting line, prompting speculation about potential last-minute betting strategies.

Later in the day, Arkansas visits Ole Miss at 6:00 PM on ESPN, with analysts suggesting that Ole Miss is likely to come out on top by a couple of touchdowns, recommending Ole Miss -7.5 and Over 61.5.

In a highly publicized game, Texas A&M will meet Notre Dame at 6:30 PM on NBC. Following careful analysis, the consensus is leaning heavily towards Notre Dame, considering their favorable position in the betting odds with picks of Notre Dame -6.5 and Under 49.5.

Florida’s encounter with LSU at the same time on ABC promises to stir conversation, particularly in light of Florida’s recent loss to South Florida. Despite LSU’s current standing, the analysts believe the spread is too wide, backing Florida +7.5 and Under 47.5.

Eastern Michigan will challenge Kentucky at 6:30 PM on ESPNU, with analysts expressing concerns over Kentucky’s weak nonconference schedule. The pick is Eastern Michigan +24.5 and Under 46.5.

Lastly, Vanderbilt will duel South Carolina at 6:45 PM on SEC Network, with the picks favoring South Carolina -4.5 and Over 48.5.

As the weekend unfolds, fans and analysts alike speculate on the unpredictability of college football, eager to see how these matchups play out amidst uncertainty and anticipation.
