MoonPay has made a significant advancement in the realm of blockchain interactions with the launch of the MoonAgents Desktop App on Wednesday. This innovative application provides desktop users with AI-powered agents capable of engaging with blockchain systems using simple text prompts and an assortment of built-in tools. The MoonAgents Desktop App enables functionalities such as wallet funding, cryptocurrency trading, and the automation of various actions directly from a user’s computer, thereby replacing the previously utilized command-line interface.
The release of this desktop version builds upon MoonPay’s initial introduction of MoonAgents in February 2026, which featured a non-custodial framework for these AI agents. The earlier system allowed AI tools to access wallets via MoonPay’s command-line interface. In contrast, the new desktop application enhances usability by integrating with tools like Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, facilitating seamless blockchain interactions through user-friendly prompts.
One of the app’s key features is the addition of “Skills,” which streamline the processes of buying and selling tokens, as well as setting price alerts. This functionality empowers users to create simple workflows by combining these Skills without the need to write any code. This lowers the technical barriers for individuals seeking to utilize AI for managing routine trading activities without needing to access a terminal.
In terms of security, MoonPay has assured users that the AI agents operate locally on their computers. The system is designed to keep private keys secure, ensuring they are not exposed directly to the AI model involved in executing transaction-related instructions. This risk mitigation is crucial for a product that facilitates asset movement and trade execution based on natural language commands.
Additionally, the MoonAgents Desktop App incorporates features like Automations for scheduling tasks and Artifacts for visual web-style interfaces. These Artifacts can serve as portfolio dashboards or spending trackers connected to the MoonAgents Card, as well as real-time token monitoring tools. This positions the app as more than just a chat interface; it serves as a comprehensive workspace for ongoing tasks and trading activities.
MoonPay’s foray into AI-driven trading tools has been evident in its previous initiatives. In May, the company launched a feature that allowed users to purchase Bitcoin and Solana directly within ChatGPT through conversational exchanges. This expansion of functionality coincided with MoonPay’s acquisition of Dawn Labs, a startup focused on AI tools designed for trading systems, further enhancing its technology offerings.
For developers and advanced users who prefer a more traditional setup, MoonPay continues to provide access to MoonAgents through the command line via the npm install -g @moonpay/cli command, preserving the older workflow for those accustomed to terminal interaction. As MoonPay rolls out this desktop application, the industry watches closely to see if the company will further expand desktop access and the capabilities available within this emerging framework.
