BALTIMORE – The UMBC Swimming & Diving team showcased impressive performances during its annual intrasquad Black & Gold/Alumni Meet, held on Saturday. This highly anticipated event brought together a dynamic blend of current team members and program alumni, creating a spirited atmosphere as both groups competed for bragging rights.

The Gold team emerged victorious, finishing with a score of 604 to 560 against the Black team, highlighting a competitive edge that kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the event.

Several current Retrievers made significant strides in their personal performances, setting new best times in various events. Notably, Thyn Van Lier excelled in the 200-yard freestyle, demonstrating endurance and speed. Claire Oettinger and Ashley Gutshall also impressed in the 200 individual medley and 50-yard backstroke, respectively, showcasing their versatility and skill. Additionally, Andrew McEachern and Nicholas Poulos recorded personal-best times in the 50-yard breaststroke, further emphasizing the team’s collective commitment to improvement.

Looking ahead, the UMBC swimming and diving squad will kick off its season against American University on October 3 at 6 p.m., where fans can expect to see their continued progression and dedication to the sport. This intrasquad event not only served as a competitive platform but also as a reminder of the strong community and tradition within the UMBC swimming program.
